How?At Plymouth, the UKCAT is used alongside academic ability. You are required to meet a minimum standard in each of the subtests plus an overall target score set and reviewed annually by the Admissions Advisory Panel. For example, in 2015 for 2016 entry: The minimum scores were: Verbal Reasoning - 530; Quantitative Reasoning - 650; Abstract Reasoning - 610; Decision Analysis - 600. An overall score of 2610At QUB, you are awarded points for your UKCAT score and this is used at stage one of the selection process. For example: a score of 2,200+ would score 6 points; 2040 - 2190: 5 points; 1880 - 2030: 4 points; 1720 - 1870: 3 points; 1560 - 1710: 2 points; 1400 - 1550 1 point. The current scoring system is being reviewed for 2018 entry.



Entry Requirements

GCSE Subjects RequiredApplicants need to achieve 7 GCSE passes at grades A-C/9-4 which must include English language, mathematics and either GCSE double award science or two from single award chemistry, biology, or physicsGCSE performance in the best 9 subjects will be scored with 4 points awarded for an A* (grades 8 and 9 on the new 9-1 grading scale), 3 points for an A (grade 7), 2 points for a B (grade 6) and 1 point for a C (grades 4 and 5). From 2021 entry, in view of the re-alignment of the A* with a Grade 9, scoring will change to 4 points for a Grade 9 and 3 points for Grades 7 and 8.
A-Level Subjects RequiredA*AA - AAB at A-Level which must include an A grade in biology and one further science from chemistry, physics, maths, and psychology. Your third GCE A level can be from any subject area including the humanities, languages, music, sport, science and the social sciencesChemistry and at least one from: Biology/Human Biology, Physics and Maths. A maximum of one VCE/Applied subject. A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics cannot be counted together at A- Level. Critical Thinking and General Studies excluded. If not offered at A-level then Biology/Human Biology grade A as a 4th AS-level or grade B as a 5th AS-level. Grade A in the EPQ or Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate or a grade B in a 4th A-level is acceptable in place of the 4th AS-level.

Scottish Highers Subjects Required--
Scottish Higher Grades Required-Applicants with a minimum of AAABB in Scottish Highers at the first attempt are given serious consideration. 32 points are awarded for AAABB; 34 points for AAAAB and 36 points for AAAAA.
Scottish Advanced Highers Subjects RequiredGrades AAA-AAB including a grade A in biology and one further science from chemistry, physics, maths, and psychology.In all cases, Chemistry (Grade A) plus a grade A in at least one from Physics, Biology and Mathematics are required. Three Advanced Highers are necessary unless applicants achieved five A grades in their Highers. If not taken as an Advanced Higher, Biology Higher is required and Standard Grade, Intermediate 2 or National 5 Physics and Mathematics are also necessary.
Scottish Advanced Highers Grades RequiredAAA-AABWhere conditional offers are made, the standard specified in Advanced Highers is also dependent on performance in Scottish Highers and are AA (for those with AAAAA in Highers); AAB (for those with AAAAB in Highers) and AAA (for those with AAABB in Highers).
