Entry Requirements

GCSE Subjects Required5 subjects at grade A (7) with a minimum of grade B (6) in Maths, English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Dual science accepted.English Language and Maths Grade C (level 4); combination of A and B (level 6-9) passes at GCSE expected, especially in science subjects. Biology is recommended; Physics is recommended (or Dual Award Science).

If our S5 requirements are not met, a typical offer will be Conditional upon achieving a minimum of the grades below in three appropriate subjects in S6. National 5 qualifications; English and Maths are required (Grade B minimum); Biology and Physics are recommended but not compulsory (Grade B minimum). A combination of Grade A & B passes at Standard Grade / National 5 is expected, especially in science subjects.

Scottish Advanced Highers Subjects RequiredTwo Advanced Highers (Chemistry or Biology plus a second science) must also be achieved at minimum grades of AB.Higher qualifications: Chemistry (Grade B minimum); Two subjects are required from Biology/Human Biology, Maths, Physics. Two further Highers in most other subjects – applicants should check with the Medical Admissions office if clarification required. These may be taken across the Senior Phase – S4 to S6. There is no requirement, and therefore no advantage given, to obtaining the three sciences required in one sitting. Maths is regarded as a science.

IB Subjects Required35 points including three grade 6 passes at IB Higher Level and grades of 6, 6, 5 at Standard Level are required. Any science not taken at the Higher Level must be offered at Standard Level grade 5 or GCSE grade B (or equivalent). Points awarded for the Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge are not taken into account but these components must have been completed. English Language (Language A) at Grade 6 is acceptable in lieu of GCSE English Language. Please see English Language Requirements under General Requirements if you do not have either of these.Chemistry, and one subject from Biology/Human Biology/Maths/Physics is required.
